The regular course coordinator was not available for this year but the replacement coordinator has been involved in the course for many years. Also the lecturer has been involved previously. The course was basically given in the same form as the previous year, with the same compulsory assignments.As explained in the next section, the expected math skills for this course are not matching the requirements for the study program. It could be possible to arrange something like a "math crash-course" right at the start of the course, together with a written leaflet, which shows clearly from the start what is expected when it comes to math skills, and which might be enough to make the activities much more manageable.

This course gets a very mixed response because the course in its current form is not well suited for students without much background in mathematics (and such a background is not required for the study program Music technology). It was commented by students that lectures are presenting the material in a qualitative way, focusing on the understanding, but the exercises require much mathematical skills. Also the exam has a significant amount of mathematical tasks that are similar to exercises. Five students did the compulsory assignments, and eight students finished the exam (three students had done the exercises previous years). On the exam, there were 2A, 2B, 1C, 1D, 2F, which possibly reflects that the expected math skills in this course are not matching the rest of the study program.A survey was sent out to all students after the course, but a single student responded so that response report is not published here.

The procedure for them to be able to register seems not been straightforward and the different steps are not that easy to find. Look at the possibilities to ease this procedure.

Give access to the ARC room to all students of the course 

It has been a change of coordinator since the last action plan and that makes the course being evaluated without referencing to the previous action plan. The general opinion about the course is that the lectures are good, making good use of the lab spaces and showing different demos during the semester. The synchronization of the labs and exercises needs to be reviewed so exercises could be published in correspondence with the lectures given and not earlier, especially the ones corresponding with Loudspeakers. There is a good balance between lectures and audio examples, as well as good interaction from the lecturers with the students present in class. The lecture notes and slides would preferrably be upoaded before the lectures, and ideally all at the beginning of the semester. After the lectures, those notes and slides might be modified and updated to represent what it has finally being introduced during the lecture. The course is meant for Master Students in Music Technology which is the majority of students registered, but a significant number of international students and also students coming from different backgrounds also ask and use to be accepted to take the course. From the students´ evaluation, we received notice that the registration procedure for the later group of students seems to be complicated. This issue will be evaluated for further editions.

The structure of the course and the lecture's content seems to be in agreement with what the students expect from the course and the description found in Emne på Net. Also the course helps with future academic and professional goals. The lab and exercises are helpful to understand the concepts presented during the lectures and discover the practicalities and challenges of what is shown theoretically in class. The feedback from the delivered exercises given to the students has been also very much appreciated and constructive.

Some practicalities need to be reviewed: <ul><li>the location for the course uses to be the ARC at the Acoustic lab and it is a good venue especially for the Music Techonology coming from Fjordgata to Gløshaugen. It is a way to discover and get connected with the Acoustic lab and group. The access to the room seems not to be straightforwardly obtained by all students and that makes it complicated to be independent from other students having access to it. An action to be implemented will be to make sure at the beginning of the semester to transmit the correct information both to the students and administration so the access is not an issue during the course. </li></ul> <ul><li>this course starts one week later than what other courses might start. The students indicate that this fact is very practical since it allows for being present at the introduction of the course while checking the suitability for them with other subjects. </li></ul>

The topic of this course seems to be very much appreciated by the students in the Music technology master program. This last year we received feedback through the reference group that the course seems to be a course for other students (engineering students) which has been modified too little to be optimal in the Music technology master program: when the "mathematical approach" from engineering courses has been removed, also the more advanced/interesting topics disappear to a large degree. What is left is then a bit too much of an introduction, which these students already know quite a bit about through their practical work.

The learning outcome is considered as relevant. It is usually shown to the students in the introduction lecture to the course. This course stands a little bit by itself in the "Master in music technology" program since it is the only one which is offered by the acoustics group. There is possibly potential for improving the connections to other courses in the program.

The lectures offer the chance to make audible demonstrations of various acoustic phenomena. The exercises give important hands-on experience with acoustic measurements. The students seem highly motivated for the topic of this course, since the topic seems to be quite central to the study program. This year, there were many more students that took the course: 10 compared to the previous highest number of 6. The slightly larger number of students seems to be beneficial for the learning environment.

This year, an oral exam was used for the first time. A change of examination form is a bit challenging for the students since it might seem uncertain what to expect: a number of examples of previous written exams is usually given to the students, but an oral exam had never been used before. The results were reasonably well distributed, with a little bit higher number of high grades than previously: of 9 students that took the exam, 5 got an A, and the others got B, C or F (one student).
