Lectures<ol><li>The lecture is preceded, relevant and interesting. </li><li>Straight to the point and interesting. </li><li>It is applied and practical. The students are clear in what they should know. </li></ol> Group formation<ol><li>The deadline for the first assignment was too close to the group deadline. </li><li>Students were unable to see how many slots were left in a group. Therefore, it was hard to join group in the case that they do not know anyone. </li><li>It was recommended to use a form for the group formation which polls: Name, names of the students that the student wants to work with, and expectations towards the grade. Based on that data, the groups should be set. </li></ol>

Assignments<ol><li>The current set up is good, but it does not cover the whole curriculum.  </li><li>To make them more coherent with other courses, a series of smaller assignments in combination with other bigger ones would be an option.  (I have already changed this for the next year).</li><li>Due to the structure of the Assignments, students focus their readings on that of what they need for their assignment and skip other topics of the course.  Examine if a group has a time series project, they do not read about computer vision.  (I have already changed this for the next year).</li><li>Some groups have the problem that they are not sure what to include in the report, since the course covers a wide range of topics.  </li><li>A Summary at the end of the lecture white the key points could help with this issue. The aim should be what the student must take away and what is nice to know.  </li></ol>

Feedback on assignments <ol><li>Peer feedback: before the final grading is done by Kshitij, the students give each other feedback. </li><li>The feedback toward the assignments was perceived as very useful. </li><li>The customized feedback was also perceived very positive.  </li><li>The students have understood the differences between the two different feedbacks (general and customized).</li><li>Next semester, it should be provided earlier to give the students more time to work on the assignments.   </li></ol> Other comments<ol><li>Information is easily available in a good structured  </li><li>The relevant information is findable  </li><li>The announcements should be made in both on blackboard and in the lectures as it was </li><li>Some datasets were reported as too clean, what raises difficulties about applying data cleaning methods.  </li><li>Students struggle with the statistical analyses, in the discussion, brief statics 101 lecture was suggested. This one could be like the statics 101 in IT3023. </li><li>The reference group points out that they appreciate the additional time that they get to finish their work. So, they like the lecture-heavy start of the semester and the project-heavy ending.   </li><li>Some Students ask when the final assignments will be published, there was an issue with communicating the schedule.   </li></ol>

Rapporten fra prosjektet er grunnlaget for karakteren i kurset. Studentene må også levere obligatoriske leveranser gjennom hele semesteret. Den obligatoriske aktiviteten er tre forskjelliger innleveringer relatert til sluttrapporten. Ved gjentak må hele emnet gjentas.

Forkunnskapskrav

Emnet er forbeholdt studenter opptatt på MSIT-retningen "Interaksjonsdesign spill- og læringsteknologi", MTDT/MIDT-profilene "Programvareutvikling", "Digital virksomhetsutvikling", eller "Interaksjonsdesign og spillteknologi" og lektorutdanning i realfag (studieretningen for matematikk og informatikk) (eller kontankt faglærer for evaluering).

Faglig innhold

Dette kurset vil gi følgende:<ol><li>Håndtere virkelige data produsert fra dataapplikasjoner, for eksempel brukergrensesnitt, tjenester og andre programmer.</li><li>Utfør tilstrekkelige dataprosesser (f.eks. funksjonsutvinning, valg og reduksjon av dimensjonalitet) for å støtte programvareutvikling.</li><li>Bruk ML-teknikker (f.eks. overvåket, uten tilsyn, semi- og svakt overvåket) for å berike moderne programvareutvikling.</li><li>Lær å løse problemer i den virkelige verden ved å bruke programvare med datadrevne modelleringsteknikker (f.eks. kunnskapsslutning).</li></ol>Konkret vil vi dekke følgende emner:<ol><li>Introduksjon til data og grunnleggende statistikk.</li><li>Forbehandling og kalibrering av datadata (f.eks. databehandling og signalbehandlingsteknikker)</li><li>Kunnskapsutvinningsteknikker fra datadata (f.eks. funksjonsutvinning, funksjonsplassreduksjon).</li><li>Grunnleggende modelleringsteknikker (f.eks. KNN, Naive Bayes, Gauss-prosess, Beslutningsgrenser)</li><li>Avanserte modelleringsteknikker (f.eks. SVM, tilfeldig skog, ANN og ensemblelæringsalgoritmer)</li><li>Styrke systemer med uovervåket læringsevne (f.eks. personaliseringstjenester og anbefalte systemer).</li><li>Styrke systemer med semi-overvåket og svakt veiledet læringsevne (f.eks. adaptiv støtte).</li><li>Styrke systemer med sanntidsfunksjoner (f.eks. gjennom tidsserieanalyse og prognoser)</li><li>Sette ting sammen: Bruke datadrevne teknikker for å designe og utvikle moderne programvare.</li></ol>

Læringsformer og aktiviteter

Forelesninger og prosjektarbeid. Hvert team må levere prosjektleveranser i løpet av semesteret og en sluttrapport. Karakterisering er teambasert, men individuelle karakterer kan gis i spesielle tilfeller. Emnet undervises på engelsk.
