Nettskjema evalation of the course has taken place. Only 15 students (out of approximately 100) thought it interesting to fill in the questionnaire. Overall these were the students that were present in class, according the the answers on the first question. Most of the answers in the questionnaire show a good performance. One particular interesting result is that there seems to be a less positive answer to the question about timely feedback, while I have gotten some compliments regarding timeliness. It could be due to the fact that the students who answered "undecided" did not ask questions.The amount of work seems to be seen as fairly high, which I partially can agree upon and I can consider what parts can be shortened.Positive feedback is well appreciated and I will go in depth on the negative feedback (or the parts that can be improved):<ul><li>Blackboard and the lack of good an equal communication in all subjects: this seems to not be related to the course directly, but the fact that different teachers have different setups of BB. I do not see a reason to change my setup.</li><li>As mentioned earlier I found the assignments interesting, but I found it hard to find the time to do them. If an example code solution for the assignment was published after the deadline I could go back, look and try to understand the code, perhaps recreate it, and then get some learning outcome from the assignments I didn't do. Just an idea.: The goal of the assignments is not per se the coding, so it doesnt make sense to provide code. In previous years when the assignments were mandatory, some feedback was given to the students, but mostly when I saw some parts that generally were more difficult for the students, so I used that as a learning moment. With only few students delivering the now voluntary assignments, it didnt make sense to give feedback</li><li>The guest lecturers are often boring to listen to and not always super relevant.: The guest lectures are used to give the students a pretty good feedback what research we are working on at IIK. Not all is equally exciting to all students of course. Generally I get positive feedback, but I can try to steer the guest lecturers in a more engaging form of presenting.</li><li> It would have been nice with fewer guest lectures, as at times it seemed that they were not always equally relevant. Sometimes the lecturer was ectremly fast to introduce the different themes. So fast that it was very hard to follow the lecture. The recordings and the quality/ preperation for the lectures should also be improved.: See the above comment on this also. I do not fully understand the last part of the comment. Full recording and post-processing of videos of all lectures is available. Maybe at a few occasions the audio was forgotten in the beginning, but that was always quickly corrected.</li><li>A portion of the assignments should be mandatory, ~75%.There could also be more assignments with shorter due dates. Balance between content in assignments and the amount of assignments.: The amount of students and lack of student assistants in Gjøvik makes it hard to have graded assignments. Maybe indeed shorter and smaller assignments could be a solution.</li><li>Some of the things seem useless since it will almost never be used in real life. Like calculating LFSR, even the teacher said that the computer does this so why do we need to do it by hand.: I believe students should possess a certain amount of basic knowledge in crypto. The examples they had to do by hand were very small and creating software for that would have taken much more time than in fact doing it by hand. If a student cannot do such tasks by hand, then he didnt understand the topic and that means I failed to teach them</li><li>A bit too fast-paced, some more time to chew on the difficult stuff would be appreciated. The lecturer has a math's mind. Some of us don't to the same level.: I agree that for some tasks the pace should go down, maybe in combination with the amount of material in the course mentioned above. However, there are exercises for such tasks where the students can ask questions. The off-campus students can always contact me online and ask questions. By the amount that opportunity was used, I believe that this is more a failure on the student's side to not ask question than it is at the teacher's side for a too high pace.</li><li>Use menti in class. Do short recaps.: Very good idea, and wanted to implement already in 2023, but creating such mentis takes time which was lacking a bit. This is however a good idea. It does however only work with sufficient students in class.</li></ul>
