The course seems to have an acceptable development, but still there could be implemented improvements. One thing that did not work optimal this year was seminars intended to give more student activity. The seminars were directly after lectures and was seen as a burden with 3-4 hours continuing teaching activity. Also, communication at Blackboard could be improved both earlier and more specific before teaching activities. Regarding the exam one suggestion was more differentiated questions in direction of some more concept oriented descriptive short questions and not just essay type tasks. At a general level there continuously is a need to look at the readability of syllabus literature

At a general level the course is in line with the learning outcomes. However, it may be students want a mor practical skill oriented focus.

The course was run based om one lecture in a week – all together 11 lectures on 90 minutes. Of those 3 ½ lecture was guest lectures. In addition, it was a 3-day excursion to Frøya looking at conflicts around wind power development and fish farming. The students also did write a term paper in groups. The component the students liked the most was probably the field course. The lectures as such were OK, and it was also seen as positive that all lectures were accessible on blackboard the whole semester. The strongest critique from the reference students was on the syllabus. The syllabus mostly was journal articles and book chapters, and some of them was seen as difficult to follow. In this it is probably both a critique of the accessibility of the texts as well as the connectedness of the different articles as such. It is therefore a need of a revision of the syllabus. In direction of easier accessible texts, including getting a more connected and integrated reading list. It should then probably be a goal of finding a book where the texts build on each other into a wholeness rather than isolated articles. It is probably also of interest getting the syllabus (and content of the course) in a more applied direction. Improvement goal: Make a revision of syllabus, and adjust lectures accordingly

The quality of the course this year was heavily influenced by Corona. In a course with at least half of the students abroad made teaching much more complicated this year than earlier. This made all teaching hybrid teaching with some in the classroom and some at zoom. It also made the usual field course impossible. That was a big loose. The course had a lot of the same content and lectures as previous, but it was thought that the active engagement out in field was lover due to the special situation. To compensate these ordinary lectures (in classroom and zoom was supplemented with an open meeting were students could ask questions and we talked about the content of the last lecture.

The intended learning outcome should be the same as previous year. It is difficult to compare if the specific situation this year had impact on the outcome.

Teaching activities were:<ul><li>Hybrid lectures in classroom and zoom</li><li>The candidates also submitted term paper either individually or in group.</li><li>What lacking this year was the three days field courses traditionally given</li><li>Further on – planed integration of field course and digital teaching were nightery implemented. </li><li>The hope is to implement this next year, maybe as part of the DIKU financed project VR Learn.</li></ul>

Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Biology or equivalent. Other relevant qualifications can be accepted upon approval by the Department of Geography.

The course focuses on challenges related to management of natural resources, including strategies for dealing with different types of conflict. Resource management challenges are explored through several case studies. Different controversies and planning strategies are used to illustrate current theoretical and practical approaches and solutions. The course is based on interdisciplinary research and planning theories. The lectures are held by researchers and professionals with experience from resource management and public administration.

Læringsformer og aktiviteter

Up to 18 hours lectures, two seminars and obligatory field course. A student work based on field course and two mandatory seminars must be approved before a student can take the exam. The format of the student work will vary and can deviate from a traditional term paper.

It is expected that compulsory assignments and examinations are completed in English. Exceptions must be clarified with the lecturer responsible for the course.

Demonstrate in-depth insight into topics in natural resource management through relating theory to practical management. 
Discuss current management challenges through active contributions in lectures and reflexive use of examples from fieldwork.

Critically evaluate and reflect on the positive and negative characteristics of the different approaches to planning and management of natural resources. 
Evaluate and make informed and individual choices between different approaches to natural resource management on an independent basis.

Generally, the course has good quality, but with some potential for improvement. The course is a course with mix of lections and field work. There is also a term paper that can either be delivered as a traditional term paper or as a web page that can be open for externals and which is shared with those visited during field course. Lectures were also for 40 % given by guest lectures.  The biggest potential for improvement is have more varied cases and teaching. The fieldwork was related to cabin development and was probably used to much in the rest of the course. Also, other cases and not only Norwegian cases could be used.

There is a good impression of the learning environment during the course.Also spirit and motivation was good, BUT more variation in cases and so on could probably improved motivation somewhat.

The course had a mandatory term paper, and a traditional written exam. Written exam is a traditional evaluation form, and alternative could of course be used. The result of the exam was also rather good, and I think it is one of the best results for the course.

18 hours lectures and obligatory field course. A field course report must be approved before a student can take the exam. The format of the report will vary, and can deviate from a traditional term paper.
