Införda ändringar är följande: <ul><li>Studenterna har kallats in till ett eget möte redan i september där proposal processen har genomgåtts i år. Innehåll i detta möte har varit följande:</li><li>(i) Viktiga datum: Research seminar, annonsering av potentiella topics, tilldelning av val av topics och handledare, Proposal deadline, ny deadline för submission inlämning av masteruppsats)</li><li>(ii) Obligatoriska arbetskrav: Proposal, Reserach seminar, Presentation-seminar, insändning till NSD</li><li>(iii)Processen runt val av tematik</li><li>(iv) Proposal processen, och</li><li>(v) Vad dem kan förvänta av sin handledare</li><li>Införing av ett 3 dagars obligatoriskt research seminar har genomförts både i år och förra året. Innehåll i detta seminar har varit följand: </li><li>(i) Survey-based research: Relevant research questions, design, and analysis</li><li>(ii) Approaches to interview-based research: Relevant research questions, designs and analysis</li><li>(iii) Doing research in quantitative IB: Panel Data Analysis</li><li>(iv) NSD/GPR-instructions </li><li>(v) Proposal and thesis writing</li></ul> <ul><li>Införing av ett obligatoriskt presentationsseminarium i början av vår-terminen har genomförts både i år och förra året. Här har alla grupper varit tvungna till att presentera sitt pågående arbete. Anställda som arbetar akademiskt vid avdelningen i tillägg till handledare, har varit inbjudna till att ställa frågor och ge tips.</li></ul> <ul><li>Vi har infört att alla proposals ska in till mig i tillägg till handledare vid angiven frist</li><li>Att jag går igenom alla proposals, och vid tvivel tar kontakt med handledare där som det inte ser ut som att studenterna vill kunna genomföra sin plan</li><li>Ny frist för submission av masteruppsats har införts till 15.e maj</li><li>Alla studenter har fått egna mejl, där dem informerats om att dem ska vara i lead med hänsyn till sin process</li><li>Alla studenter har även blivit tilldelade en mall/struktur som dem kan utgå ifrån i samband med påbörjandet av proposal skrivandet</li><li>Infört att vi även har ett möte med alla involverade handledare, för att upprätthålla dialogen samt för att säkerställa att alla får informationen angående viktiga datum</li></ul>  Anställdas och studenternas reflektioner;Jag har bett om feedback från administrationen angående dessa ändringar och dem uppger att ändringarna har varit positiva. Vi vet ännu ej hur det blir med den nya fristen av själva masteruppsatsen men vi tror att detta vill bli bättre med tanke på bedömning/sensur och sommarlov, samt att studenterna inte behöver vänta upp till tre månader på ett fullständigt diplom.  Vi tror även att en frist i samband med Porposal vill hjälpa dem med att komma i gång snabbt på nyåret och likaså vad gäller den nya fristen i Maj.Jag har även bett om feedback från akademisk personal, dem allra flesta tycker att ändringarna har varit positiva och att informationen har varit tydlig. Ett fåtal har även nämnt att dem anser att deadline för proposal kanske är för tidig. Feedback från studenterna har varit blandade, dem tycker bland annat att det är för många obligatoriska samlingar samt att frist för proposal är för tidig med bakgrund i att det var många tentor/eximinationer samtidigt.Studenterna önskar även en tydligare anvisning av tematik, dvs vad som kan ingå i deras ”major” vid val av tematik/topicVad gäller det obligatoriska presentations seminariumet fick det mycket positiv feedback från studenterna. Många anställde uttryckte även dem att det var bra.   Mina egna reflektioner; Tycker att det mesta har gått bra, men att vi till trots för att vi har lyckats med att ge så mycket information så tidigt i processen, säkerligen behöver starta ännu tidigare.Vad gäller frist på proposal, så har jag talat med både Even och Hans, och vi tror att om vi blir tydligare med att dem kan starta med en gång och inte vänta med att skriva, så kan dem självmant undgå att det kolliderar med andra examen datum. På grund av att många studenter inte startade ”i tid” så fick dem alla en extra vecka på sig samt att två grupper som var på utväxling fick ytterligare några extra dagar på att färdigställa sina proposals.  Vad gäller insändning av proposal till mig, så var det en del studenter som ej hade sina handledare på CC. Detta ska förtydligas nästa år.Jag hade önskat att potentiella handledare hade kommit med förslag till tematik inom angiven frist. Ser även behovet för att tydliggöra vilken tematik som kan ingå i studenternas ”major”, så till nästa år ska jag införa en kollon som uppger detta vid utsändning. Vad gäller externa handledare, så tror jag att det är viktigt att dessa bör stå som bi-handledare och ej huvudhandledare bland annat på grund av kommunikationssvårigheter. Here, all groups have had to present their ongoing work. Employees who work academically at the department in addition to supervisors, have been invited to ask questions and give tips. • We have introduced that all proposals must be submitted to me in addition to supervisors by the specified deadline• That I go through all proposals, and in case of doubt contact supervisors where it does not look like the students will be able to carry out their plan• New deadline for submission of master's thesis has been changed to May 15• All students have received an personal e-mail, where they were informed that they should be in lead with regard to their process• All students have also been assigned a template/structure that they can use as a starting point when starting the proposal writing• Implementation of meeting with all supervisors involved and myself, to maintain the dialogue and to ensure that everyone receives the information regarding important dates  Employee and student reflections:I have asked for feedback from the administration regarding these changes and they state that the changes have been positive.We do not yet know how it will be with the new deadline for the master's thesis itself, but we believe that this will be better with regards to the assessment of the work and external/internal summer vacation, and that the students do not have to wait up to three months for a complete diploma.We also believe that a deadline in connection with Proposal will be beneficial as it can help them get started quickly in the next semester, and likewise with regard to the new deadline in May. I have also asked for feedback from academic staff, the vast majority of whom think the changes have been positive and that the information has been clear. A few have also mentioned that they think the proposal deadline might be too early. Feedback from the students has been mixed, they think, among other things, that there are too many mandatory tasks and that the deadline for the proposal is too early with the background that there were many exams/examinations at the same time.The students also want a clearer indication of thematics, i.e. what can be included in their major when choosing a theme/topicAs for the mandatory presentation seminar (which we also had for the last year's students), it received very positive feedback from the students. Many employees also expressed that it was good.  My own reflections;I think that most things have gone well, but that despite the fact that we have succeeded in providing so much information so early in the process, we certainly need to start even earlier. Regarding the deadline for the proposal, I have spoken to both Even and Hans, and we believe that if we are clearer that they can start right away and not wait, and in so doing they can automatically avoid it colliding with other exam dates. Due to the fact that many students did not start "on time", they all got an extra week and two groups who were on exchange abroad got a few extra days to complete their proposals. Regarding the submission of proposals to me, there were some students who did not have their supervisors at CC. This will be clarified next year.I would have liked that potential supervisors to have come up with suggestions for topics within the specified deadline. I also see the need to clarify which themes can be included in the students' major. By next year I will introduce a column stating this when sending out the form for suggesting themes/topics. As for external supervisors, I think it is important that these should stand as co-supervisors and not main supervisors due to communication difficulties, among other things.
