Routines and instructions for the sorting lab
Employees, students and guests who needs to use the sorting lab (room B117/B114) have to apply for workspace through this application form: https://sorteringslab.vm.ntnu.no/portal/.

Training
People working in the lab must have information about:
- How to use the Laboratory and workshop Handbook
- How to use equipment (machines, tools etc.) that require specific
training
- How to use protective equipment and technical aids
- Room information card and safety information card
- Alarms and emergency switches
- Fire regulations and extinguishers
- First aid kit
- Escape routes
- Using the Chemicals index (https://i.ntnu.no/hms)
- Reporting discrepancies (https://i.ntnu.no/hms)

- Routines for using fume hoods and fume extraction arms
Work leaders and supervisors are required to provide necessary information prior to working start.
General rules for using the lab
- Training has to be given prior to working start
- Always respond to alarms
- Routines for handling spills has to be known (Chemicals Index
and/or Laboratory Handbook)
- Your assigned space is to be kept neat and tidy
- You will limit your work within your assigned space
- Tidy up after yourself, including the common areas
- The sorting lab is not a storage room, material and equipment
shall be stored in assigned cupboards and drawer
- Used jars and glasses has to be washed and put in assigned place
after use
- When the microscopes are not in use, cover them with the dust caps
and turn off the light
- The cleaning staff has only responsibility for washing the floors
and emptying the bin
- You have a responsibility to report discrepancies, including
damages to equipment
- All chemicals are to be reported to contact persons, and stored in
the chemicals cabinet
- It is forbidden to eat and drink in the lab
