Guidelines and application for postponement of parental leave #
Leave with parental benefits must generally be taken as one continuous period. However, it is possible to apply for a postponement of parental benefits in certain situations. This applies when:
- The person receiving parental benefits is in temporary full-time paid work.
- The person receiving parental benefits has statutory holiday leave.
- Due to illness or injury, the person receiving parental benefits is dependent on help to care for the child, or has been admitted to a health institution.
- The child has been admitted to a health institution.
The whole period of parental benefits may be postponed, except for three weeks before and six weeks after the birth. The entire benefit period must have been taken within 3 years after the birth or after the responsibility for care of the child has been taken over.
