Install Skype for Business

Skype for Business (SfB) is installed and ready for use on PCs managed by NTNU IT. Employees with a Mac or PC not managed by NTNU IT, must install SfB themselves. This page shows you how to proceed.

Install on Windows #

For Windows users, Skype for Business is included in the Office 365 suite. As an employee at NTNU, you can install Office 365 on up to five devices. In addition to Skype for Business, Office 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, and OneDrive.

Note: If you have a managed PC from NTNU IT, or already have an Office package installed on your computer, you can not install the Office 365 package on top.

Use the menu button at the top left of "Innsida" to access the Office 365 Portal:

From the Office 365 portal, select the button Nedlasting - Office-pakken and you will be taken to the Office 365 installation page. A detailed guide for installing Office 365 is available on the Office 365 - Install on PC page.

Log in from Windows #

The first time you start SfB, you must enter the correct login information:

  1. Enter your email address at NTNU this way: firstname.surname@ntnu.no
  2. Enter yourusername@ntnu.no (if this doesn´t work, try win-ntnu-no\yourusername)

  3. Enter your password
  4. Select Sign In

Install on Mac #

Mac users should also install Office 365 from NTNU's Office 365 portal. This can be accessed from Innsida, as shown in the previous section. A detailed guide for installing Office 365 is available on the page Office 365 - Install on Mac OSX.

The Office 365 package for Mac does, unlike the Windows edition, not contain Skype for Business. Mac users must therefore download and install Skype for Business separately. The Skype for Business Client for Mac can be found here:

Install on Linux #

It exists no Skype for Business Client for Linux supported by Microsoft. If you use Linux and want to try Skype for Business, you have some options:

Sky Linux #

Sky Linux is a third-party client from Tel.Red. They offer a free version with a 2-minute limit on call and screen sharing. The full version (without such limitation) costs 49 USD per year.

NTNU has currently no agreement with the provider of this service.

NTNU IT has tested the service somewhat and concluded that it is not flawless. NTNU IT does not guarantee the functionality of the service.

Pidgin #

A third-party plugin for the Pidgin program, SIPE, have been successfully tested against Skype for Business, and may thus be an option.

NTNU IT does not guarantee the functionality of the service.

Install on mobile phone #

Skype for Business apps are available for iOS (iPhone), Android and Windows. You can download the app from your current software store.

Once you have downloaded and installed the app, you must start it and enter your NTNU login credentials.

Log in from Android #

The first time you start SfB, you must enter the correct login information:

  1. Enter your login address and your password

  2. Select Advanced options

  3. Enter win-ntnu-no\yourusername
  4. Click the back-arrow in the upper left corner and then click the login-arrow in the center

Log in from iOS #

The first time you start SfB, you must enter the correct login information:

  1. Enter your login address and your password

  2. Select Advanced options

  3. Enter WIN-NTNU-NO\yourusername
  4. Click the blue X in the upper left and then click the login-arrow
