Import and export bookmarks in web browsers

How to export and import your bookmarks or favourites in different Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Internet Explorer #

Exporting and importing should not be neccessary in Internet Explorer if using a Windows 10 PC administrated by NTNU.

If you're using your own Windows PC, you may find your favorites in the "Favorites" folder on your PC. You can backup these by moving the elements to the Favorites folder on the M:\ drive.

Move bookmarks from Windows 7 to Windows 10 #

  1. Navigate to C:\Users\%username%\Favorites
  2. Copy all the files into the Favourites folder on M:\Favorites
  3. When logging into Windows 10, your bookmarks will be automatically imported.

Google Chrome #

Export #

  1. Press the three dots in the upper right corner.
  2. Select "Bookmarks".
  3. Open "Bookmark manager". 
  4. Press the three white dots in the upper right corner.
  5. Select "Export bookmarks".
  6. Save the HTML file on M:\

Import #

  1. Repeat step 1-4 as described above.
  2. Select "Import bookmarks" instead of "Export bookmarks".
  3. The bookmarks will be imported when select the HTML file you previously stored on M:\ 

Mozilla Firefox #

Export #

  1. Use the hotkey combination "Ctrl + Shift + B" to open the bookmark library.
  2. Press "Import and Backup".
  3. Select "Export Bookmarks to HTML..."
  4. Choose to save the HTML file on the M:\ drive.

Import #

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox
  2. Use the hotkey combination "Ctrl + Shift + B" to open the "Bookmark library".
  3. Press "Import and Backup".
  4. Select "Import Bookmarks from HTML..."
  5. Select the HTML file you saved on the M:\ drive.
