Blackboard - Self and peer assessment

Peer assessment feedback can improve comprehension of the material for both the assessed peer and the student who provides the evaluation.  This wiki shows the workflow for students.

Self and Peer-Assessment #

Lecturers can set up self- and peer assessments for students in their courses. This assessment method has the following steps:

  1. Submit Assessment Students submit their assessments within the submission date range
  2. Peer-Assessment Students evaluate a defined number of peer-assessments within the evaluation date range (may also include self-assessment) 
  3. Feedback from peers will be available after the evaluation deadline

Submit Assessment #

Students can access peer- and self assessments from a course area. The assessment has a Title (A) and the Submission and Evaluation date ranges (B) appear with the link. 

  1. In the course area, select the View/Complete Assessment (C) link to begin an assessment.
    Contact your lecturer if you can't find the assessment in your course.

  2. This takes you to the Take Assessment page:

    Here you will find:
    • (A) Instructions, Number of evaluations to complete, Submission and Evaluation date ranges
    • (B) Questions (Only one question in this example) 
    • (C) Status (Here: Uncomplete)
    • (D) OK to exit page
  3. Select a question link (B) to access the Response page:
    • (A) Question
    • (B) Response: Type your response here or
    • (C) Atttach File to upload one or more files
    • (D) Cancel to go back. Submit to proceed.

  4. You will get a confirmation (A) after you have submitted your answer(s). Status have changed to Completed (B). Press OK (C) to exit:

    Note: It is possible to access and revise your submission until the submission deadline expires.

Peer-Assessment #

Peer-assesment evaluation will open after the initial submissions deadline:

  1. Students can access assessments with the same link they used to begin with View/Complete Assessment (C):
    Open Self- and Peer Assessment
  2. On the Evaluation Overview page students will find a list of submitted work to assess (1). In this example Self-assessment has also been activated by the lecturer, and our student in this example Spot will see his name on his submission, the other submissions have been anonymized:

    Go to the evaluation page by clicking on one of the listed submissions (1). Click OK (2) to exit.
  3. In the Evaluation page you will find:
    • Submission information (A) 
    • Model Response (B) if provided by the lecturer
    • Submission in-browser view (C) plus file download (D)
    • Assessment Criteria (E) provided by the lecturer
    • Feedback to the learner (F) can be written here. Constructive feedback is always valuable.
    • Save and Submit (G) to proceed to the next assessment
    • (H) Cancel to Exit or Submit to save evaluation for the current assessment   

  4. Updated evaluation status will be shown in the Evaluation Overview when an evaluation has been submitted:

Feedback from Peers #

  1. Students can see evaluations and feedback from their peers by using the View/Complete Assessment (C) link:

  2. Feedback and comments will be available in the Results overview when the evaluation deadline has passed:View Feedback
    • Overview over results (A) Assessment Name, Submitter name = your name, Average Percentage, Average score
    • Feedback to learner (B) Feedback to Learner (if provided by peer)and Points
