The following actions were taken to accomplish the tasks from the TIØ4306-2022 version.1) Lessons with MCDA software use, “DECERNS,” were organized at the dedicated Computer labs located in (Room 322, Kjellhuset Datasal) for efficient use of software as a part of the course assignment.2)  An additional module on “land-use changes and associated impacts on industrial sustainability” was included in the curriculum. 3)  The project assignment was given 40% weightage of the total grade in TIØ4306.

Throughout the course, the students learned about the main principles of:·      Evolution of sustainable development, what is sustainability for industries, and what is NOT?·      Risks, challenges, and uncertainties associated with the industrial sector·      Global initiatives, standards, and frameworks for sustainable innovation and development relevant to industries·      Ethical dilemmas and perspectives based on different principles of corporate sustainability to avoid greenwashing.·      Good practice for corporate governance and the development of business strategies for industrial sustainability·      Awareness of the need to adapt to new technologies, innovations, and systems such as the circular economy and environmental design.·      Role of occupational health, industrial safety, resilience, partnerships, and supply chain in discussing industrial sustainability The typical slide-based lectures, classroom discussions, quizzes, documentaries, and guest lectures from arbeidstilsynet and other experts achieved the learning outcome. Additionally, a social simulation game was played in the class with students to make them aware of the principles and challenges in realizing the sustainability targets for the companies.

There were around 70 registered students for the course TIØ4306 in 2023, with about 20% of them coming from Exchange semester studies at NTNU. This was also the first year TIØ4306 was included as a mandatory course for BAS-Led first-year students. The students had diverse backgrounds in technology, management, mathematics, economics, geography, industrial ecology, and business schools. The reference group meetings were conducted twice during the course, and the main findings from the group were:1) Students wanted more assistance from the teaching staff for the Exercise part (FellesØving) sessions. Accordingly, changes were made, and the course teacher and student assistants participated in all the exercise classes.2) Students sought assistance on the template for the course's exercise report and presentation part. Accordingly, the guidelines were passed on to the class via Blackboard. Karakteren er basert på både prosjekt oppgave (40%) og skriftlig eksamen (60%).a) Prosjektoppgave: Prosjektoppgaven er obligatorisk og teller 40 % av totalkarakteren. For prosjektoppgaven skal studentene arbeide i grupper (på 4-5) i et valgt tema gjennom hele semesteret. Det blir gitt veiledning i prosjektoppgaven underveis. Prosjektoppgaven er obligatorisk og er en forutsetning for avsluttende eksamen. b) HjemmeeksamenHjemmeeksamen er obligatorisk og teller 60 % av totalkarakteren.Studentene må få bestått karakter på både prosjektoppgave og hjemmeeksamen for å bestå. Ved utsatt eksamen (kontinuasjonseksamen) kan skriftlig eksamen bli endret til muntlig eksamen. Ved frivillig gjentak må begge deler tas på nytt.

The following actions were taken to accomplish the tasks from the TIØ4306-2021 version.1) The software for Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) method was ordered via IØT's IT department, and the 15 units of the licenses were installed in the computer labs for the TIØ4306 course participants.2) The MCDA software, DECERNS, was included in the Fall 2022 version of TIØ4306, and students used the software during the group exercise part of the course.

Therefore, the take-home exam was organized after the agreement of all the students taking the course. Fall 2021 was the first time TIØ4306 was offered. The course was developed considering the explanation of complex concepts in sustainability science and showing its relevance to the industrial sector. The course content consisted of lectures and exercise assessments where students apply the concepts learned in the course. The guest lecturers were invited to deliver expert lectures on key topics relevant to industries such as worker safety, work-life, occupational hygiene, ethical practices in business, circular business models, corporate social responsibility, etc.

Throughout the course, the students learned about the main principles of:<ul><li>Evolution of sustainable development, what is sustainability for industries and what is NOT? </li><li>Risks, challenges, and uncertainties associated with the industrial sector</li><li>Global initiatives, standards, and frameworks for sustainable innovation and development relevant to industries</li><li>Ethical dilemmas and perspectives based on different principles</li><li>Good practice for corporate governance and the development of business strategies for industrial sustainability</li><li>Awareness of the need for adaptation to new technologies, innovations and strategies such as circular economy, design for environment.</li></ul>

There were around 40 students who participated in the course from various backgrounds. The teaching methods included lectures, guest lectures, documentaries and debates, social simulation games on corporate sustainability and group assignment. Considering the novelty of the course, teaching methods worked out fine and the reference group enjoyed the course. The reference group demanded exercise sessions to be more interactive and explanatory. The necessary actions were taken in the second half of the course (After høst-ferie) to make exercise sessions more self-explanatory.
