The examination consists of a portfolio exam that counts 40 percent of the grade, and a written exam of 4 hours that counts 60 percent of the grade. The exam must be written in English.Retake examIt is possible to retake the exam. The examination is offered both semesters. The mandatory assignments can only be taken in the semester the course is taught, so in order to retake the exam at a different semester, your assignments must be approved.

Faglig innhold

How shall we understand sustainability, a new concern for protecting the planet, within the context of the modern business and governmental organisation that has operated over the past several centuries with only sparse reference to safeguarding the earth? In this course you will learn to recognize how modern business, government and ecological concerns are articulated and perceived in different cultural contexts. Contemporary notions of nature are entangled with concepts of personhood, risk, and cosmological orderings of humans and nonhumans but also with the way the modern organisations establish notions of resource management, climate science, consumption practices, and environmental ethics. With the contemporary environmental crisis as our backdrop we will examine critical appraisals of options for studying new interactions between organisations, risk, modernisation and the environment.

The learning environment arises from in class discussion, reading, lecture, and team-based activities. For the most part, this environment achieves the desired goals.

The learning outcomes depend in large part on becoming familiar with the course materials and transferring that familiarity in the form of a team-based fieldwork program which was assessed based on specific criteria layed out in the fieldwork program.
