<ol><li>The new concepts are now introduced first on a general level and then the details are provided, if necessary. The project is not introduced. This has to be coordinated with other teachers since the project was removed previously after students' complaint that they had too many projects during the semester.</li></ol>

The course has been performed in a usual form. There were some technical problems in the beginning of the semester, whose consequences were that some recordings of the lectures and/or exercises were lost or they were of bad quality. This was compensated by providing the students with the recordings of the same material from the previous year. The quality of recordings was stabilized after a couple of weeks. Two sessions were held in Trondheim physically. The Trondheim students were satisfied with them. The students suggested some changes in the exercises - they recommend making videos of the installation procedures in order not to waste time on that during the class. This is a good suggestion since the technical means to do that are now developed enough.

We would like to give the students/groups of students practical tasks during the exercise hours, where they would solve problems by their own. This has been planned for a long time, but due to the epidemic, it could not be realized

2. Introduce the project again and organize a 3-hours' exam counting for 60% of the mark and 40% of the mark as the contribution of the project.

Follow-up plan for autumn 2023 - IMT4204 

This activity (the follow-up plan) can be considered realized in practice. The conditions for lecturing and exercising were normal, without epidemic-related limitations, so we could realize the practical tasks during the class, especially during the exercises.

The feedback from the students (the questionnaires, reference group meetings etc.) tells us that they are mostly satisfied with the quality of teaching. However, they would like some concepts to be explained first on a more general level and then more details could be provided. In additions, the attitude of the students towards the introduction of the project is positive.

The extraordinary situation continued during the autumn 2021 (the epidemic). The situation was relatively good until November when a new variant of the virus appeared. The teaching was performed in the usual form (with physical presence of the students + streaming/recording) and it was finished before the worsening of the epidemic situation. The quality of teaching was not affected by the epidemic in the autumn semester 2021, however, the new methods of teaching involving more practical work in the exercises could not be performed in their entirety.

The learning outcomes of the course were achieved by most students, but the number of the students that did not pass the course was a little greater than usual. The reason for this may be the epidemic.

The exam was a home exam due to the epidemic. In addition, the exercises could not involve more practical work in the class since most students were present on-line.

The extraordinary situation continued during the autumn. Even though the plan was to organize teaching and exams in the usual way, by the end of October 2020 the rector decided to change the form of the exams. The teaching, on the other hand, was performed in the usual form (with physical presence of the students + streaming/recording) and it was finished before the worsening of the epidemic situation in Norway. Thus, the quality of teaching was not affected by the epidemic in the autumn semester 2020.

The learning outcome is updated and relevant. It was communicated to the students through the Web pages of the course and during the lectures/exercises. The relation of the learning outcome is synchronized with other subjects in the MIS/MISD program and the previous versions of the learning outcome of this subject.

The lectures and exercises in the autumn semester 2020 took place in the usual way. The students' general remark was that it would be better if they could be engaged more during the exercises. This will be taken into account if the situation normalizes soon. The students' engagement and motivation were surely affected by the epidemic situation, but most of them found strength and courage to fulfill the requirements and pass the course.

Upon the rector's request, the evaluation form of the written exam was changed to the home exam. The project work that counts for 40% of the mark was not affected by the situation and it was successfully done as previously planned. To reduce probability of collaboration between the students during the home exam, the following measures were undertaken:<ol><li>Only calculation tasks were given on the home exam.</li><li>The amount of work necessary to finish all the tasks in 3 hours was such that not much time was left to the students to organize eventual collaboration.</li><li>There were 2 alternatives for each task (out of 7 tasks in total), which (bearing in mind the number of students on the exam, about 55) significantly reduced the probability of 2 students having the same set of tasks.</li></ol>In this way, the adequacy of the evaluation form related to the learning outcomes was maintained. The project was evaluate by an external examiner. The distribution of final marks does not differ significantly from the previous years.

This is the third time that the course was held. Compared to the previous year, no major changes were made. Only the lecture material was updated with the deep learning subtopic of the topic 4, Anomaly detection. The corresponding software for laboratory exercise and the material for the numerical exercise related to deep learning in anomaly detection were also produced.

The learning outcome for the course was not changed this year. It is relevant for the subject. It was communicated to the student through the course description and the introductory lecture. The learning outcome is given below: Knowledge-Possesses advanced knowledge in detection/prevention of intrusions in computer systems and networks, in particular: application of advanced search algorithms in intrusion detection, unsupervised and supervised learning methods used in these systems, computational complexity-theoretic modeling, information-theoretic modeling of intrusion detection/prevention systems, and intrusion detection in virtual networks.-Possesses thorough knowledge about theory and scientific methods relevant for intrusion detection.-Is capable of applying his/her knowledge in design and analysis of intrusion detection/prevention systems. Skills-Is capable of analyzing existing theories, methods and interpretations in the field of intrusion detection and working independently on solving theoretical and practical problems.-Can use relevant scientific methods in independent research and development in intrusion detection.-Is capable of performing critical analysis of various literature sources and applying them in structuring and formulating scientific reasoning in the field of intrusion detection and prevention.-Is capable of carrying out an independent limited research or development project in intrusion detection under supervision, following the applicable ethical rules. General competence-Is capable of analyzing relevant professional and research ethical problems in the field of intrusion detection.-Is capable of applying his/her knowledge and skills in new fields, in order to accomplish advanced tasks and projects.-Can work independently and is familiar with terminology in the field of intrusion detection and prevention.-Is capable of discussing professional problems in the field of intrusion detection and prevention, both with specialists and with general audience.-Is capable of contributing to innovation and innovation processes.

The teaching methods were updated this year, compared to the previous years. A demanding individual scientific project was introduced, which required independent practical work. Still, some help was offered the students during the exercise sessions held throughout the semester. This contributed to acquiring an important skill from the learning outcome list - carrying out an independent limited research or development project in intrusion detection under supervision. This also contributed to the students' motivation to be more engaged and physically present in the class. The rest of the learning outcomes were achieved as before, through lectures, laboratory work, and numerical exercises. The quality of the learning environment was satisfactory.

The project introduced this year contributed significantly to the students' engagement in independent scientific work on a project that required certain level of knowledge in mathematics and programming. This was one of the requirements that we set in the process of improvement of this course and the study program as a whole - improve the knowledge in mathematics and computer science as well as the programming skills of our graduate students.
